Passion makes the world go round. Love just makes it a safer place.
- Ice T, The Ice Opinion

========================================================

THE STORY OF THE CRACKED POTS

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do. After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house." Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them. To all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers, on your side of the path.

Quote of the Day

All people want is someone to listen.

-Hugh Elliott, Standing Room Only weblog, May 8, 2003

============================================================

Well, haven't been keeping up with the blogging pace for ages. Actually, I have the slightest thought of killing this habit. But, then I guess it would be nice to come in and blog a little once in a while.

School has been on for a month since 7 november and about 3 weeks to mid-semester tests. Well, I just got the feeling this semester everything don't seem to be on the right track. Schoolwork isn't going well and same goes to normal day-to-day routine activities. I need a good turning point before it turns too late.

Today is my brother's 21st birthday. We had a celebration at Safra Sakura. He invited his closest friends and working buddies, all ranging from his old schoolmates to air force pals. I would say it was a rare yet wonderful big gathering. It was really cool to be able to see most of our guild members from maplestory there since I don't know a single one in real life. The entire celebration was winded up with cake-cutting, and not forgetting the "sabotage" by the evil gang.

Friday, had a kbox session with the black gang straight after school. I am sure all of us really enjoyed the afternoon very much. It has been a stress-relieving session. =)

Wanted to watch the newly-released animated movie, Chicken Little. Bingo! MapleStory's 32 Hours GM Event Marathon from 1st September 2005 (Thursday) to 4th September 2005 (Sunday). It was the second time I took part in event. The first time was Coconut Harvest. And ever since then, I am in love with events. As you can see Starryach didn't make it for the first round (lost). But it has been a good warming-up session.

This is Starryarc when she is merely level 6. Rotten luck she had as she died almost everyday during the 32 Hours Event Marathon. And it was not easy to get into the event when the GM open the gate. Hope I wasn't being forgotten by anyone of my existence. What I can say is that, tons of things happened these weeks. I am glad that finally the writing test and project cum presentation for business mandarin has come to an end. Relief, relief and REFLIEF! And for accpac online test, I was rather surprise of the grade I've gotten as I was really preparing for the worst, thinking that my marks would be as low as a single digit hanging within the pass/fail border. Feeling lucky for the first time I would say cos I knew exactly where in the test I've gone wrong. As for the accpac project, it's a job well done. Our 101% effort put in has indeed not gone to waste. Just recall back, all the late nights we spent in the lab and all the other times spent doing this project, the feeling within is rather terrible. But all thanks to the fun and laughter, peace and joy from my fellow group members, ah ling, ah min and yan ting, we managed to pull through all the difficulties. Wonder whether the 'outing' tomorrow will be confirmed or not. Anyway, it is not any extraordinary outing. It's just a simple eat-out gathering to celebrate the end of all our projects. Hopefully, we will have a day out again after the exams.

The end of today marks the start of study week. It's a week that I am most 'afraid' of. Every time, when I am preparing myself for the coming week exams, I will have this feeling as if I am a jailbird. Also, I can never resist the temptation of the television and computer.

Talking about computer, I just simply dislike fellow gamers in runescape and maplestory who come to the game to create a din out of nowhere. They just spoil the mood of the other players who want to have peace and enjoy the game. My newest objective of runescape will be to have a level 70 crafting and maple to gain level up to 30. Perhaps have to wait till exams are over, then I can have all the time I want in front of the computer.

Ouch! The open wounds on both my foot are torturing the hell out of me. Damn regretted putting those plasters this morning. Now, the wounds are oozing pus and I wonder when my foot will rot. Sigh... Hope the healing will be within a week. *Pray*

Before I go, and perhaps not come back after ages, I would like to wish everyone who will be taking their exams soon best of luck!

Good day!

Quote of the Day

"By seeing the seed of failure in every success, we remain humble. Finally, the worst of the worse week is over. All the heavily-packed project dues and the little little tests for all our core subjects for this semester are completed. I'm now left with business mandarin's project cum presentation and the writing test for me to worry about. Today morning ACCPAC online test was indeed a disaster. But it will be useless to cry over spilled milk, just have got to prepare for the worst and perhaps work harder for end-semestral examination. Time is moving faster and it seems this semester is rather short; about 3 more weeks to study week and a month to examination. After the 2-month term break, we will land at different classes again. How sad.

This month has a whole load of my classmates celebrating their birthdays. Out of 22 peeps in my class, 7 are august babies. For a start, today's peiling's birthday and next on national day is huimin's and there will be 5 more to go for the month. I will wish them all an advance happy birthday!

Yipee, I'm looking forward for Monday to come. It will be a movie-catching at GV after school. Hurray!

Quote of the Day

Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.

Carl Sandburg (1878 - 1967)

======================================================

2 short stories to share... ^-^

1) PERSONAL PERCEPTION

Different people have different perception. One man's meat could be another man's poison. A couple bought a donkey from the market. On the way home, a boy commented, "Very stupid. Why neither of them ride on the donkey?" Upon hearing that, the husband let the wife ride on
the donkey. He walked besides them. Later, an old man saw it and commented, "The husband is the head of family. How can the wife ride on the donkey while the husband is on foot?" Hearing this, the wife quickly got down and let the husband ride on the donkey.

Further on the way home, they met an old Lady. She commented, "How can the man ride on the donkey but let the wife walk. He is no gentleman." The husband thus quickly asked the wife to join him on the donkey. Then, they met a young man. He commented, "Poor donkey, how can you hold up the weight of two persons. They are cruel to you." Hearing that, the husband and wife immediately climbed down from the donkey and carried it on their shoulders.

It seems to be the only choice left. Later, on a narrow bridge, the donkey was frightened and struggled. They lost their balance and fell into the river. You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future.

Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if our conscience is clear..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2) BE PATIENT
This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.
Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, " Daddy,I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are
my fingers going to grow back?" The father went home & committed suicide.
Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or you wish to take revenge. Think first before you lose your patience with someone you love. Trucks can be repaired.Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognise the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.
People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.
Quote of the Day
The test of courage comes when we are in the minority; the test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.
-Ralph W. After a week of battle at the examination ground, I could do nothing but raised my white flag and showed myself and perhaps anyone in my vicinity that I was badly defeated. There is nothing to be sad about, for the battle will be continued in its second finals.
This week is as terrible, for we had to spend most of our time in school to do projects. The worst of the worst is CAS's ACCPAC project. For the start, we were like struggling through our way and never did we get the hang of it. After all, it wasn't that bad. Hope we are able to be more productive on Wednesday.
I'm least eager for week 9 to arrive. By then, all the dues will be up soon and class tests and online test will be on their way too. I hate to be in the position to race against time, for man will always be the losers. Time is only an illusion.
Once again, life is getting a little too monotonous and stressful. Just hope that things wouldn't get too haywire when we least expect they would. All I long yearn for is some quiet moment for some relaxation.
Oh, the next two movies I'm looking forward are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (4 Aug) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (unknown but end of this year). *Grin*
Quote of the Day
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
-T Edison
===============================================================
Mid-semester tests are in one week's time and I am not at all ready. Have I overcome those obstacles and choose the right route from the crossroad I was once at? What is the meaning of life when one's choose to abandon her passion and goals and try to live life as if it's still the same? I sounded very doubtful, don't I? Although, I would usually be reluctant to service for Flag Days, this one is considerably quite enjoyable. This Flag Day is targeted to help Lakeside Family Centre to raise funds to help needy children and families. The shift took 6 hours altogether but we did only 3 hours then we went to eat and shop around at Far East Plaza. I found out a rather weird trend during the first 3 hours. I was stationed at a bus stop. What I discovered was that the first person whom I approach plays an important role. If unsuccessfully, the first one I approach decides not to donate, there will be a high tendency that all others who came down from the same bus would not want to donate. Whereas if the first one donates, many or some will follow to donate. I think this is some form of human psychology. Also, I discovered another bad trend. Among all, Indians are the ones who would prefer not to donate than to. I am uncertain whether this act of theirs is due to them being racist or they are being educated or brought up to think donating generously is a bad thing. Their reactions would uniformly be to act blur when you approach them then they would just walk away in split seconds as if you are invisible. I think this way of rejecting to donate is rather ill-mannered. A rather appropriate way would be to make eye contact with the volunteer then perhaps make hand gestures to turn down the offer. Apart from these minorities, most did donate generously and it is willingly and not by force. This lead me to have an idea to address another issue i.e. donate willingly versus donate by force. I think many would have encountered one or two times being stopped by a volunteer who is trying hard to persuade you to buy the donation coupon at the bus interchange. I can understand it is not easy to sell those coupons because there is a limit amount the donator has to contribute. Most volunteers will resort to "psycho" whoever they have baited upon and wasted 5 to 10 minutes persuading the unwilling beings. I think this is not the right thing to do as making a donation is a very subjective or personal thing. It is better to see someone opening his wallet willingly to make a donation than to see the former doing so with a bitter-ground face. Okay, enough of personal opinions. Back to story. The 2nd half of the shift was like a breeze as we decided to stop asking for donations and go for a break but time was hard to pass. We (ah ling, ah xia, ah ong, eilin, peishan, weitian and I) even had a neoprint-taking session. At the end of the day, we went back to hand the tins. Eilin and Peiling went for work and the rest of us bid goodbye and went separate ways.
Weekend is about to end yet heap of tutorials are still awaiting for completion. It is pretty ironical to think of holiday to come when you are schooling and vice versa. Tomorrow is only the start of week 4 and there is already a class test for us. I am beginning to lose faith in the things I am doing again. No one can help me to build up the once lost confidence but myself.
Off to clear the work.
Quote of the Day
"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow."
-Anon.
========================================================
Time for some little updates. Tomorrow is already week 3 of school yet subconsciously I think my mind is drifting somewhere else. Time is moving fast. Weekend is way too short. A mental breakdown is inevitable. Finally, I've manage to complete my business idea proposal for basics of entrepreneurship yesterday. Hopefully the tutor will approve it so I can submit the final one fast. One dumb project less.
Watched Madagascar with Candice. Hilarious though the plot is very much predictable. The graphics is cuteee.
Whoa... The other day during business mandarin we had some tongue twister session. I realized how bad my Chinese is getting. Time for me to buck up before it's too late. Needless to say, I'm always impressed by people whose brains are like a Chinese dictionary. I suppose I did never become one.
To all, take care of your health and try not to take things too hard along the way. Always look at the brighter side and don't forget there are friends around you who will standby you.
Good day.
Monday is a blue day.
Quote of the Day
"Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace."
Amelia Earhart (1897 - 1937), Courage, 1927
===================================================
Yesterday was A & F Orientation Day. It was a typical one except you see transition of people participating in this event. This year, I have 2 from my secondary school joining my course. I do not see much differences upgrading from a freshman to a junior physically except the mental stress accumulated within. The question of surviving by managing the schedule well still remains a question mark in my mind. Although I still have not managed to get a chance to interact with some of my new classmates this semester, hopefully they will be nice people to work with.
Last week, I got the chance to catch up with old pal, Candice, and went for movie with close pal, Quanxin. Unexpectedly, Quanxin called me the very evening asking me to come back to Carrefour to work for 3 days. With not much hesitation, I agreed without a second thought. The working pace there has not changed, still as hectic as before. Familiar people would occasionally ask me in doubt how come I was doing packing work instead of cashiering. It has been glad to have Eilin around for these 3 days. The supervisors were nice enough to give us to go for break together. Like the other times when I came back to work during the long school term break, new faces could be easily identified in presence. Although the wage rate there is pretty high and attractive for many, I am sure not many would like to stay in the same company servicing for ages. There are countless pros and cons for staying and leaving. I would not want to spell out everything too clearly...
Before the overwhelming project dues start to torture us, I do really like to go for a movie or two. Madagascar is in the top of my list. I have not decided upon whom to watch with.
I had something for readers to try this round. Time flies. One month has passed and about a week to school reopening day. This one month of work is well-spent and meaningful. I truly benefited from the tons of new things I have learnt and also met a handful of nice people there. The very first person I met on my first day of work is Jocelyn and she is from SP. We clicked on instantly as we are of same age. But a pity, she is assigned to another team yet the same branch. Then after that, I met many others from my team. The first week, I was totally unfamiliar with the work, therefore asked a lot of questions. But slow and steadily I gradually became more efficient. Really have to thank Normah (mama) and Chwee Sian (auntie). I was rather dependent on them for help all the while. Especially the latter, she worked there for almost 20 years I suppose. I must say that even the supervisor and my aunt respect her for her seriousness and experience at work. Contrastingly, she can also be humorous too. The words she said can sometimes make the both of us laugh heartily. Normah is also another nice teacher. From the first day I arrived, I was made to sit just behind her. Her other close malay colleagues would occasionally asked me in a joking manner, "Where is your mama?", when she was not around at her desk. Well, there are also two other temporary staff, Shu Fang and Nerissa. They are much more experienced than me especially Shu Fang who worked for almost half a year there. Both are waiting for entry to university. Unnoticeably, I have somehow inculcated a habit to wake up as early as 6:30 in the morning and sleeping the latest at 11 pm. It was a little like going back to the secondary school days. Also, roughly only one hour a day during the weekday is spent on playing the computer. All of the above I have mentioned was the nice things. Aside from them, one thing I loathe the most is the MRT trips to and fro work. The stiffness of the air and the inconsiderate passengers can sometimes make you feel bad for a start of a brand new day. But worst of all, the common injuries you get from sitting in front of a computer for too long are really BAD neck aches and eyestrains. The best remedies would be YOKO YOKO and ample of sleep if possible. Nonetheless to say, I have eventually overcome them. For now, let's look forward for the next long holiday. I hope I am not thinking too far ahead.
For the minds who are already drifting from the screen, here is a link you may want to try: http://www.mindmedia.com/brainworks/profilerto find out whether you are left or right brain dominant. Some side notes before you start the test: Our left brain deals with logic, maths, rational thinking, linearity, language, sequence, facts and etc whereas our right brain takes cares of rhythm, creatively, lateral thinking, imagination, holism, colours and feelings.
Here is my brain test result:
Your Brain Usage Profile:
Auditory : 41%
Visual : 58%
Left : 47%
Right : 52%
As most of us know that the left side of our brain controls the right side of our body and vice versus, many people has think or assume that right-hander is usually more left brain dominant and vice versus. All I know is, it is not 100% true.
=
==
===
==
=
Ok, enough of blogging for the day.
=
==
===
==
=
Till next time! :o)
Quote of the Day
"Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. First of all, I would like to congratulate my sister and her school concert band for obtaining a gold medal for the syf performance. It was indeed one huge rock off the shoulder. Glad that all the time and effort you people spent has not gone to waste. Cheers!
Went back to school twice last week. It was a&f meeting on Tuesday and some talk-cum-gathering on Friday for the year 3s who will be leaving us real soon... The latter was well-planned and definitely be memorable for the school leavers. At least, they will have some memories to fall back on when they think of a&f and tp.
One last thing. Sad to say, no more long hours of computer-gaming. I have found some serious work to do close to the nine-to-five ones. For now, I would just simply hope I will not meet any hazards nor any form of "danger" on the first day of work. May the force be with me. (Although, I know I have a foul luck these day... Sigh!)
Before I forget I have something for everyone to try out. It must have been the lazy bug which is biting me again. These few days, I have been slacking all day long. The main activity (70% of the day) would either be spent on playing Runescape, Sims 2 or just watching the television. Sounds like I'm wasting my life... But what else can I put both my hands to do when it's holiday? Okay, I promise I will have a change for more meaningful activities on effect from today.
Last Friday, I had a good time with my secondary school fellow Red Cross members. Or should I call them my juniors? We had a visit at Jamiyah Home. It is an old folks' home which takes care of aged people who mostly do not have a home to stay in. I used to pay a visit every Saturday when I was doing my NYAA with Candice and Eng See. The place has not even changed at all since my last visit in year 2002. This time, it was Juanda who invited me to come along. Mr Halim was presented too. The people in-charge gave us a tour around after which we made our way to the hall for the tea-break serving. The tour was not at all interesting because the places he showed I have already seen and been to. But I suppose it proved beneficial for those who came for the first time. In the hall, the members were mostly scattered to mingle with the old folks for a chit-chat session. It was then followed by some small performance by the old folks and later our members. The food serving was fun. I always enjoy doing it. It was rather a short visit. We did not do any manual work unlike the other time I came with my batch of members. But still, it was a pleasant experience.
Oh... I actually forgot to mention that I was 15 minutes late that day because I took the wrong bus. Pretty dumb, right? I don't know what is wrong with me these days. Perhaps, I was dreaming while waiting for the "wrong" bus. The bus number is correct but the street area which the bus is going is not the one I wanted to head to. I told my sister during that night and she nearly laughed her head off. It was mainly because the "wrong" bus takes the route to her school. Another thing, I saw quite a handful of the familiar faces on the street on the same day itself. I have no words for them, just hope that they are coping well with their new lives...
Quote of the Day
"Death is the only inescapable, unavoidable, sure thing. Early in the morning, I was trying to retrieve something from my bookshelf. All of the sudden, I lost grip of both the movable glass panels and one of it directly hit my head and shattered into pieces once it hit the ground, while the other one I managed to grip hold on it at the very last minute. All happened too quickly that I was unable to react fast. Hah, the one that hit my head indeed has waken me up instantly.
Quote of the Day
We do not stop playing because we grow old.
We grow old because we stop playing.
-Anon.-
=====================================================
I'm finally home again. Had a good time in Bintan, Indonesia together with my mom, 4th aunt and her friend. Came back yesterday after a short stay in Nirwana Resort Hotel. This trip has indeed provided me a chance to relax and loosen the nerves a little. It was a 1 hour ferry from Singapore to Bintan and the time over there is 1 hour slower than here. Although it's not yet the holidays for many, there were still many tourists visiting the place. They were mainly made up of the Caucasians and the Japanese. The people working in the hotel were mostly very polite and nice. Their services were pretty satisfying. The driver who drove us to Pasar Oleh Oleh was the best I have ever seen among them. I can see the passion he has for his job. He greeted and smiled at every visitor he sees. I'm also impressed with his driving. The roads looked very narrow for two cars to pass and there were many curvy turns up and down the slopes. He must have known the roads very well. I would have killed myself and the other lives on the bus if I were to drive on these roads. Haha... After shopping a little and had our dinner, night has fallen and it's time to head back to the hotel. The trip back was pretty entertaining too... My aunt chat with the driver and all of us had a good time in the bus. I bet the driver really enjoy his job. Yea... Did I mention the roads were very dark during the night? There were no street light at all except at the crossroads. All the vehicles have to depend on their headlights to see the roads. I can say it was dangerous, man. Speaking about street lights, it reminds me of microeconomics last chapter for a mini-second. How strangely, hah! The driver was indeed really skilful. Another person who gave me a memorable impression is a young girl who tends the shop. It was this shop which sells handicrafts, portraits and some batik paintings. She was really good at introducing the things sitting in her shop. I was impressed by her speech and friendliness unlike the other shop-keepers. Things set aside; I really enjoy the scenery by the beach in the hotel. The shades of blue of the seawater, the tall swaying coconut trees, the sandy beach and the birds flying in the blue velvet sky... But after all the fun, returning home is the best feeling of all.
These few days, the two songs "shao nian" and "tong hua" have been revolving in my mind. Although I'm not really a big fan of guang liang, these two are pretty fantastic. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.
- Hugh White
============================================
Yesterday's access online test was not very well done. Plenty of errors here and there. Quite disappointed with it. Now what? Should put in more effort in the papers I suppose.
Anyway, after school went for movie with Candice. The movie we caught was "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" directed by Brad Siberling, featuring Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Jude Law. It is a fantasy cum adventure movie. I give it a rating of 4.5 out of 5. Pretty good storyline. So who do I like most in the movie? It would definitely be the three Baudelaire orphans namely Violet (Emily Browning), Klaus (Liam Aiken), and baby Sunny (played by twins Kara and Shelby Hoffman). Baby Sunny is extremely cute and intelligent at her tender age. As for the storyline, I shan't reveal anything much.. Find it for yourself at the cinema theatre.
Today, went to school to attend the NE talk. Nonetheless to say, the talk is pretty boring and long-winded. But it's quite beneficial if you have followed closely to what the speaker had to say.
Finally, projects and assignments are coming to an end. Can't imagine the weeks just passed so quickly. What I'm left with right now is the final skit (The Prince and the Cindermama proudly brought to you by the Rojak) to be put up on the coming thursday (Arts Appreciation). I'm looking forward to it. One more week of school followed by one more week of study week and one last week of fighting at the battlefield with the enemy called examinations. With either a victory or a lost, we will be giving our warmest welcome to dear vacations. And soon, one semester will pass the baton to another semester.
Time flies... really fliessssss... ~~
Quote of the Day
"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." - Aristotle
======================================================
Busy little bumble bee...
Schedule for the rest of this semester:
18 Feb Access Project Presentation
             Bus Stat Class Assignment 3
             OB Final Report due 5 pm
21 Feb OB Project Class Presentation
22 Feb Econ Portfolio Discussion 2
25 Feb Access Mock Test
             FA Class Test
1 Mar Portfolio Submission and Q&A
3 Mar Arts App. Assessment 3 due
4 Mar Access Online Test
5 Mar NE Talk
10 Mar Arts App. Assessment 4 due
14 Mar-20 Mar Study Week
21 Mar-26 Mar Exams
3 Apr-22 May Vacation
18 May Basic of Entrepreneurship
Wow...busy busy *head starts to spin again* I want a holiday! Well, this world is turning a little way too meaningless... But what to do, life still goes on like that.
Nonetheless, I shall wish everyone a prosperous new year and lets hope most of the events for the year will be smooth-sailing!
Ciao.
Your Icecream Flavour is...
French Vanilla!
You're a smooth and silky suave type! Yea, a great day to catch up with old friends.
These few days have been waking up pretty early in the morning.. I wonder what is wrong with a night owl like me. Hmm..the root cause must be the test week..been waking up early daily that week.. guess it has became a routine in me.. ZzZz..
Finally, have got some time for myself. But, this kinda moment can never be enough. Really apologize for my inconsistency and laziness. Once again, I'm trying to adapt to new people in this brand new semester. New semester means time for keeping up with projects and assignments deadline and having to complete the ever-high-stacking tutorials.. Sigh~ Loathsome! I will miss the ever-slacking holidays again.. keke.
Something cool about this semester will definitely be the additional subject added into our timetable..i.e.Cross-Disciplinary Subject (CDS). I'm enrolled into Arts Appreciation. Its broken into two main parts of visual arts and drama. Almost 3 years without "touching" arts in any  forms, thus this subject will surely hook a little of my interest.
Went back to Carrefour to work and collect our paycheck last friday. Had lessons before that from 9 am to 4 pm...Then rush rush rush along with Quanxin to Carrefour. On the way, it goes..rain rain rain... Meet up with Mengwei and Meihui..all going to work as well. We worked from 6 pm to 1 am for the Midnight Maddness Sale. Not forgetting to mention the kiasu and damn calculative people chalking up the queue... Can't imagine what is gonna happen when Chinese New Year is around the corner. But, definitely I did never want to work for them for that period.
Time really flies fast. Faster than I have ever estimated or calculated. 11 days more and we will be giving our warmest welcome to year 2005! And it will be time for most of us to set our ever-so-hard-to-fulfill-resolutions.. haha. For now, I only wish..and wish.. to have more time for myself to satisfy my ever-so-many-things-I-want-to-do-but-I-only-have-2-hands-and-1-brain-and-24-hours-mentality.
Yeahhh! Coming thursday, I'm going to make my first mask. Hope everything turns out smoothly and not ending up have to ruin Reshma's face.
Okay, that is all I have for the day. Letterman
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A day filled with some new experiences. Went to Singapore Armed Forces Basic Training Centre School at Pulau Tekong with Dad to attend my bro's POP (passing-out-parade). The journey from mainland to tekong is a little time-consuming yet the sea view is very much appreciated. I love watching the sea. The waves are beautiful. Its also where the sky and the sea merge into one. The scenery not just captivate my attention, it also drifted me temporary from the slightest thoughts of the cruelty of life. The programme lined up for the parade was rather standardized, yet it wasn't dry at all. Watched some fancy drill, awaited for the parade to form up and the guests to arrive... The boys at the parade square looked about the same despite the height difference as I looked from the view at my audience seat. At second thought, they also appear to me like some green peas standing upright with arms like twisties swinging about in the air as they marched by. wahaha.. that sounds like I'm hungry. Everything especially the drill and the commands invoked me into thinking about the past..assorted memories I had for Red Cross. The inspection was typical. I just watched through. It was followed by the awards presentation. The march-past was much appealing. The throwing of caps drew up the end of the event. I can sensed the boys' hearts were singing in joy from their delightful eyes for its time to go home! It was a long waiting for the allocated departure time to leave. The beautiful sun set which painted the sky a little crimson bided us goodbye with the sound of the rolling waves in the background... When we reached home, it was already dark and I'm dog-tired. But needless to say, it has been a fruitful day!

<ns>NS... It's where boys grow and learn to become a man.

Quote of the Day

"Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson, on ESP

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey folks! Watched Polar Express yesterday with my sis. It's a good movie. Watch it if you have the time. I'll rate it 4.5/5 for the overalls and 5/5 from a kid's point of view. The graphics and effects are brilliant. From the start to the end, it's fun-filled with thrilling experiences and ended with a light-hearted ending. The story begins with this young boy who took a ride in this extraordinary train, The Polar Express, which unfolds a journey towards the North Pole together with many other kids. Preferably, the conductor in-charge of the train is my favourite character! I shan't talk more about the movie. Watch it for yourself!
I believe...
Quote of the Day
"Slow down and enjoy life. Finally a day to loosen up the nerves! Went for a sushi buffet with Candice, Juanda and Quanxin at Sakae Sushi. What a feast! We ate till we got really bloated. After all, it's an exhausted yet fun-filled day.
Here a story to share... enjoy!
Gifts From the Heart
According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher. After a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student lavishly for the sweet water. The young man returned to his village with a happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become stale because of the old leather container. The student challenged his teacher: "Master, the water was foul. Why did you pretend to like it?"
The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter. Heartfelt gifts deserve the return gift of gratitude."
I think we understand this lesson best when we receive innocent gifts of love from young children. Whether it's a ceramic tray or a macaroni bracelet, the natural and proper response is appreciation and expressed thankfulness because we love the idea within the gift.
Gratitude doesn't always come naturally. Unfortunately, most children and many adults value only the thing given rather than the feeling embodied in it. We should remind ourselves and teach our children about the beauty and purity of feelings and expressions of gratitude. After all, gifts from the heart are really gifts of the heart.
Quote of the Day
A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug. - Patricia Neal
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Currently having pre-working blues... working from tomorrow onwards. But I have a story to share with my dear readers. Here you go!

The Mayonnaise Jar and Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar...and the coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand. One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled.

"I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

- adapted from an e-mail

Quote of the Day

"Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." - Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AQUARIUS WOMAN
If you are in love with a woman in this zodiac be prepared to be very happy or be very sorry. She is a very busy person with her own matters similar to a guy in this zodiac. She is able to live by herself without any guy in her life, a very strong person indeed.
Not because she does not have a dream guy, but if she can not find such person, so what. Because she thinks she could do anything that a man can do. She is a leader , a real confident type.
She likes to do things by herself, such as serving herself, opening the door herself. Because she thinks waiting for a helping hand is a waste of time, and she is not patient enough to wait around for that. If she starts to ask you out, do not think she starts to flirt with you, but because she thinks it is a waste of time to wait for you to be the one who asked.
She likes a COOL guy who sometime act like he is ignoring her, so he has a chance to show him his own confident. She like to guess her man's reacti! on, but at the same time she likes to has many men wanting her. She is a daring type who could just do thing differently from other people in her same society. She dare to fight for what she thinks belonged to her.
Even she acts confident she mostly feel lonely and alone. If she breaks up with someone , she won't show any emotion even deep down inside pain and agony. Not for long she will come back to be the cheery and merry person again, because she looks at the world positively and has "Faith" in the word "Love".
She has more men friends than women friends, so do not be a jealous type if you date her. She could be slightly jealous, but she hates jealous guy. She loves "Freedom" so before and after marriage , her freedom has to be the same. She likes you to trust her, even if she does not trust you anyhow.
She likes to be the one who is "Right", so if you argue with her , let her win if it is not a big deal for you in that subject. She is a straight forward type, so if she does not love you anymore, she will just tell you straight to your face. Her love and relationship are always real, so if she say "It's over" be prepare to leave, she is not testing you.
She is not a vulnerable type, so do not have to worry about her, she will survive by herself. If she is with you when you get sick, she will certainly take care and look after you, even look after you mean "small loan". Do not have secret with her, she hates it and really can piss her badly. When she is sad , be understanding. When she is happy, be happy with her, she likes that.
You will not get bore with this type of girl. Someone who is close to her will know that deep down beneath that confident and cold hearted person, she is just as fragile as any woman. She is a fun and talkative person and she likes to tease you. Do not let she talk alone, if you do she will leave. She has many type of jobs because she beliefs what a ! man can do, I can do. If you want her to work for you, forget it. When she is in love, she will just leave her job in the day time just to come to see you, but not for long she will go back to work seriously again. Prepare to live and love with a "Working Woman" then you will be OK.
If she mad, find a shelter for the "Hurricane" is here! Her bad temper will last very shortly though. She is not a revenge type and will not think of "pay Back" time. Most people might think of her as "One of a guy", but in fact she is a 100% woman. She is easily hurt, so be nice with her. If she really loves you, then you are lucky because she is an honest, truthful and will never bored you. Understand that sometimes she will be over confident and sometimes like to have power or act bossy.
- adapted from an e-mail ( hmm.. 65-70% true?)
phrase
Phrase of the Day
"When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. There are minor changes, regardless whether it's the staff, customers or the system. Sad to say, things that really need some improvement were not given the prior attention. All the money was perhaps wasted on physical appeals i.e. some unnecessary upgrading. Was greeted with familiar and unfamiliar faces of the Cashiering Dept. Overall, the experience of going back there to work is hectic yet a very enjoyable one that should never be forgotten to be mentioned about.
Quote of the Day
"What is freedom? It means not being slave to any circumstance, to any restraint, to any chance." - Seneca
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yesterday, did a lot of housework which include vacuuming and mopping the floor of the house... It's a boring task but has to be done or else scolding will be received.

After noon, went to City Link Mall's MPH Bookstore with my sis, Ting. Looked up and down for a desired book that would catch my attention. My sis was faster. It was this music theory book for saxophone and clarinet that unintentionally caught her attention. I got myself,"The Diary Of A Young Girl, Anne Frank". It is the definitive edition edited by Otto H. Frank (Father of Anne Frank) and Mirjam Pressler. What is so special about this edition is its previously unpublished material that is not presented in previous editions known as versions (a) and (b). I read the foreword of the book and it says Anne's first, unedited diary is referred as version (a): The Critical Edition (1989) and version (b) is the one being edited before publishing. In fulfilling Anne's wish of publishing her diary, her father, Otto Frank, selected material from versions (a) and (b), edited them into a shorter version later referred as version (c). Readers all over the world known this as The Diary of a Young Girl. The reason why Anne wanted her diary to be published is because one day in 1944, Gerrit Bolkestein, a member of the Dutch government in exile, announced in a radio broadcast from London that after the war he hoped to collect eyewitness accounts of the suffering of the Dutch people under the German occupation, which could be made available to the public. As an example, he specially mentioned letters and diaries. Impressed by this speech, Anne Frank decided that when the war was over she would publish a book based on the text, omitting passages she didn't think were interesting enough and adding others from memory. Quoted from an entry from her diary on Saturday, June 20, 1942, " Our lives were not without anxiety, since our relatives in Germany were suffering under Hitler's anti-Jewish laws.", "Our freedom was severely restricted by a series of anti-Jewish decrees: Jews were required to wear a yellow star; Jews were forbidden to use streetcars; Jews were required to do their shopping between 3 and 5 pm; Jews were forbidden to be out on the streets between 8 pm and 6 am...." and the list goes on and on. Just imagine at a tender age of 13, war is going on outside, your race is being discriminated and there are so many restrictions yet life goes on. How will you deal with this kind of situation? Hard to say, unless you, yourself undergo it real in life. Having the bad habit of sneaking to read a little from the back...I found out miserly that Margot (elder sis of Anne) and Anne were transported from Auschwitz at the end of October 1944 and brought to Bergen-Belsen, a concentration camp near Hannover (Germany). The typhus epidemic that broke out in the winter of 1944-45, as a result of the horrendous hygienic conditions, killed thousands of prisoners, including Margot and, a few days later, Anne. She must have died in the late Feb or early March. The bodies of both girls were probably dumped in Bergen-Belsen's mass graves....

Really a good book to learn about the historical events in the part of a civilian's life. Hope this sneak preview will satisfy readers out there who are fickle-minded whether to purchase the book or not...

Not forgetting, we also got down to Carrefour since we were at City Hall already. Little unnoticeable changes here and there. Once again, all the staff and workers had a new fresh outlook of attire...this time round a blue tee. Cool colour.

Getting a little long-winded for the day. I will end here. Good day!

Quote of the Day

"Man must go back to Nature for information." - T Paine

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday's trip to Pulau Ubin with Quanxin and Juanda is a fruitful one. Satisfying enough, I'm able to break off temporary from the urbanized world to a small greenery paradise. The cool damp air that passed by my ears speedily when I was riding down the slope on the bike and the basking sun is very much appreciated. Every countless trips I have made to Pulau Ubin vary but had always bring back different kinds of experiences. Time is different, things have change. As there is a saying, "time waits for no man." very much describes what I am trying to express. We can never be able to bring back the feelings and anxiety we had from past experiences but everytime a new experience is being newly created in response to finding the old.
Quote of the Day
"We first make our habits, and then our habits make us." - J Dryden
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

Can't wait for tomorrow's trip to Pulau Ubin. Have been yearning for the trip for months. Finally..!! Hope the weather will be fine. It will be a perfect time to cycle and enjoy the picturesque scenery of nature.

Today, also got my end-semesteral results. The outcome is fair enough. Like I say, "you gain what you sow". You put in the best of effort, you will deserve the fruit of success. On the other hand, you give the "I don't give a damn" attitude then don't expect a miracle to fall upon you. Need to really put extra effort in my weaker area. Hopefully to see a better performance academically in the 2nd semester. It is just like taking the initiative to get things done with no influence by the others and accomplishing the task wholeheartedly. That is the spirit of volunteering yourself. It takes a certain amount of bravery in oneself to inculcate that spirit, that personality. Start from today by taking the simplest step, i.e. not to back off at something you can do it within your means.

The movie Pearl Harbour is a splendid masterpiece featuring Ben Affleck as Capt. Rafe McCawley, Josh Hartnett as Capt. Danny Walker and Kate Beckinsale as Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson. It is a movie you will want to watch it again and again. Miss the chance to catch it in the movie theatre, but no regrets thanks to Channel 5 blockbuster sunday movie. The movie plot is set during the time of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour, two boyhood friends (Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) are caught up in the events that draw the United States into World War II. This movie is a good combination of historical events and a complicated love triangle. December 7, 1941 is the day to be remembered, when Japan sent her Zero fighter planes for wave attacks on Pearl Harbour which have eventually awaken the sleeping giant... ...

Quote of the Day

"Everyday choose to heal, not hurt; to forgive, not despise; to persevere, not quit; to smile, not frown; and to love not hate" - adapted from an e-mail

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Find this quite meaningful. It's a hilarious show... nice one! Had a good laugh which drifted me temporary away from all the stress and intensity of life. Find those parts where the characters sang the song "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton, the funniest. They kinda distorted the actual version of the song and had even shown "additional" gestures to it. Yeah..cool. For those who have yet catch the movie, do so this weekend! It's definitely worth the money and time. I were rather glad to hear from her. She is doing fine. For readers who have no idea who she is... she is one of my best friends back in primary school. That was indeed one of my fond childhood memories. She has definitely brightened my life and left beautiful footprints on my heart. Last seen her while attending Senior Warrant Officer Course (swoc 2002) which is years ago. I think I have got to make time to meet up with her during holidays, or else both of us could get damn busy when school starts.
